Appreciate the Small Things

slice of motivation Apr 14, 2020

Hi everyone, thanks again for joining us here on The Tennis Menu. I just wanted to reach out today and talk a little bit about appreciation.I think in these times of being isolated in our homes and not being able to do the things that we normally do, it's important to appreciate what we have.

I've had a bit of a light-bulb moment myself in that I've been always thinking about myself as a tennis coach and instructor, but first and foremost, I'm a parent, I'm a dad and I'm a husband. Obviously these times have been really challenging and have made it tough to be able to do my job, and I think it's made me realize that being a dad and a husband is more important to me, and probably more important to my family than being a coach.

And yes, I do impact a lot of lives by being on the tennis court and developing tennis drills, and I do get out there day in day out helping others, but there's nothing like helping your own family in these times. I think it's important that we appreciate these times that we're having.

Over the last 10 years, I don't remember sitting at home really having a family dinner with my wife.

Before my kids were born and now obviously with my kids growing up, I get to share in that and be able to appreciate having family dinners and hearing my kids talk about their day. I think it's something that I I never get a chance to do and I really appreciate these times right at the minute, even though it's a really tough time for the world. Individually and probably selfishly, I want to make sure that I do value these times more than anything, because at the end of the day we don't get many opportunities to do this.

So hopefully people out there watching this video can really start to appreciate the finer things that we've got, whether it be food on the table, time with family and loved ones or the ability to do things that we haven't been able to do. I've had a lot of opportunities to clean up around my house and do little things that I haven't previously been able to do because of work. So I think it's important that we stop, we take a deep breath and we appreciate what we have in our lives and not look too much about what we can't actually do. Obviously the things that we love doing like playing tennis and filming video drills are things we can't do at the moment due to the pandemic, but I think it's important to appreciate the things that we really love, and that's our family, our friends and the people that mean more to us than anything.

It's 'time' that we need to value and appreciate, so hopefully you can do that and enjoy doing the things that we're doing right now, because before long life will be back to normal, so enjoy it, value what we do, appreciate what we have, and make sure you enjoy your day and stay present in the moment that we are in right now.
